Background and story

The Grammy Awards (actually Grammophone Awards), which have been presented since 1958, are presented annually in numerous categories by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) in the United States of America for artistic achievement, technical competence and excellent overall performance regardless of the album - Honor sales or chart position.

The prize was originally introduced as “Best Rhythm & Blues Performance” from 1959 to 1961 and then awarded as “Best Rhythm & Blues Recording” until 1968, but then discontinued. Since 2012, the award has again existed as a summary of the original categories Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance , Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance , Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Grammy Award for Best Urban / Alternative Performance to significantly reduce the number of prizes. The prize is awarded according to the current regulations for performances by individual artists as well as duos and music groups, whereby it can be awarded for both vocal and instrumental pieces and is limited to individual tracks and singles.

This puts him ahead of Sam Cooke , who was nominated three times but never received the award. After the merger and the new edition in 2012, the singer Miguel was the only one nominated twice, but has not yet received the award.
