Joe Tex
Joe Tex (born August 8, 1933 in Rogers , Texas , † August 13, 1982 in Navasota , Texas), actually Joseph Arrington Jr. , later Joseph Hazziez , was an American soul singer . He celebrated his greatest successes during the 1960s and 1970s.
Joe Tex's songs were easy to understand soul songs. He made his breakthrough in 1965 with the single Hold What You've Got , with which he reached number 5 on the Billboard charts . His biggest hit in the USA was in 1972 with the single I Gotcha , which rose to number 2 in the pop charts and was also a top 40 success in Germany.
The only hit in Great Britain was the single Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman) from 1977, which reached number 2 there. In the USA the song came up to number 12, in Germany to 25th place.
His song Baby You're Right was covered by James Brown .
At the height of his career in 1972, Tex converted to Islam and took the name Joseph Hazziez.
