Pick-up wholesale market

The pick-up wholesale market or cash & carry market , also referred to as cash and carry wholesale (wholesale in the institutional sense) or self -service wholesale , is a type of wholesale business. It offers on the principle of self-service a wide range of food and stimulants as well as overall and consumables to. The buyer is responsible for putting the goods together (picking) and transporting them. As a form of wholesaling, sales are aimed at resellers , processors, commercial users (e.g. authorities , educational institutions) or other institutions (e.g. canteens , associations ), unless they are private households.

Germany

The largest chain of cash-and-carry stores in Germany is operated by Edeka under the name Edeka Foodservice Stiftung & Co. KG (141 stores), other competitors in Germany are Metro (61 stores), Handelshof C&C wholesale group Cologne , Selgros (43 stores in Germany) and L. Stroetmann .

Austria

In Austria , six companies account for around 80% of wholesale sales. The Rewe AGM sales channel maintains over 20 C + Cs, followed by Metro with 12 locations. The wholesalers Wedl , Transgourmet Austria (formerly C + C Pfeiffer) and Kastner each have more than 5 stores, and finally Kiennast is one of the top 7. Eurogast Austria , Alois Wild, GEKO, share the approx. 20% market share of the remaining wholesalers . Hausmann, KHG-Gastroexpress, Rewe-gvs and Kröswang , the latter not running any pick-up wholesale markets.

Situation in other countries

In the United States , pick-up wholesale markets are often replaced by warehouse clubs such as Costco , Sam's Club and BJ's Wholesale Club , where only members can shop, although membership can be purchased by anyone, including private households, for a fee.

In Switzerland more C exist carbon chains, including the leader prodega / Growa , TopCC and cash + carry angehrn .
