Basel- based Transgourmet Schweiz AG operates a cash & carry chain in Switzerland under the name Prodega / Growa CC . The company, which emerged from the former Prodega AG, is now part of the Transgourmet Holding and is therefore owned by the Swiss retail group Coop .

history

In 1964 the Swiss entrepreneurs Hans Edi Curti, Pierre Grandjean and Heinz Wehrli founded Cash & Carry Prodega AG. Prodega stands for PRO DEtail trade and gastronomy . In 1965 the first store was founded in Schönbühl in Bern . This market moved to Moosseedorf three years later , where the most important location of the Prodega / Growa is to this day. The Prodega Cash & Carry Group was founded in 1979 together with the companies Gromerco AG and Legro AG. In 1980 Prodega was the first company in Switzerland to introduce the EAN system. In 1986 the company went public . In 1989 the Growa Group ( GROsse WAren ) was bought up and the company then traded under the name Prodega / Growa CC. When the Prodega Markt Dietikon was built in 1997, a Coolway, a large walk-in " refrigerator " containing fresh products, was installed for the first time.

With the resolution of the general assembly on June 23, 2000, following the merger with Prodega AG, the dissolution of Growa AG and complete integration into Prodega AG with retroactive effect to early 2000 was resolved. Until 2003, Prodega AG was part of Beat Curtis Bon appétit Group , whose ambitious expansion plans, however, put the group in financial difficulties, which resulted in the sale of various activities. In the middle of 2003, the Bon appétit group and the remaining activities, including Prodega AG and the Growa brand, were sold to the German Rewe Group .

In 2005 Coop and Rewe entered into a joint venture under the name “Transgourmet” . Coop brought Bell Gastro and Rewe Prodega / Growa CC and Howeg into the joint venture. At the same time, Prodega AG was renamed “Transgourmet Schweiz AG” with an amendment to the Articles of Association on March 4, 2005. The activities brought into the joint venture will continue to appear on the market with their previous brands, and the headquarters of Prodega / Growa CC, which was newly organized as a division within Transgourmet Schweiz AG, was left in Moosseedorf. The headquarters of Transgourmet Schweiz AG were relocated from Moosseedorf to Basel in 2007.

In 2007 Prodega / Growa CC exceeded the billion sales mark for the first time. In 2008 the joint venture was expanded and Transgourmet Schweiz AG and Prodega / Growa CC were incorporated into the newly established "Transgourmet Holding AG". With the stores in Quartino (opening 2008) and St. Gallen (opening 2009), the whole of Switzerland is now covered.

Prodega / Growa today

Today Prodega / Growa CC forms a division of Transgourmet Schweiz AG and is the market leader in the wholesale market and the only one that operates in all three parts of the country. The division has been headed by Philipp Dautzenberg, who is also the managing director of Transgourmet Schweiz AG, since the beginning of 2009.

The "big" markets with a full range of 30,000 items are run under the name Prodega. Only restaurants and retailers are entitled to purchase . The markets under the Growa name are smaller and are also geared towards trade.
