history

1904 founded Leopold I. Wedl in Hall in Tirol , a grocery store with it and laid the foundation for a company that today - one of the top 10 food retailers in Austria - by its own account. Wholesale began in the 1920s and has been based in Mils since 1967 . The first C + C was also opened in the 1960s, and with the takeover of a company in Saalfelden in 1978, the range of activities expanded beyond the borders of the federal states. From 1985 Wedl was one of the first trading companies in Austria to introduce mobile ordering systems and scanners. Another sales channel, established in the 1990s, is the coffee bar system, called “Testa Rossa Cafe”, which is also active in Germany, Italy and Hungary.

In the 1st quarter of 2011, the trading house parted with 18 Nah & Frisch own branches in Salzburg, Carinthia and Tyrol, only the retail store in Hall / Tyrol remains in the company's ownership for reasons of tradition. MPreis and Spar came into play as buyers, and they in turn now offer Wedl coffee and are further expanding the presence of “Testa Rossa caffee” in the shopping centers.

today

The company operates 11 C + C pick-up markets in the federal states of Tyrol, Salzburg, Upper Austria, Carinthia, Vienna and southern Bavaria. The next division operates under the name "Interservice", which provides a delivery service for restaurants. The six delivery warehouses cover the areas of South Tyrol, West and South Austria. The group's diversification is rounded off by coffee production in two roasting plants (Mils and Belluno), further with the “Testa Rossa caffebar” franchise chain and a 33% stake in the “Shop Top Service” company, which specializes in gas station delivery.

In the 2012 financial year, total sales of 502.6 million euros were reported, of which 52.7 million were attributable to the coffee business and around 20 million to investments; the workforce was 1252.

Wedl & Hofmann Gesellschaft mbH is at the head of the company network of around 20 companies, 59% of which are owned by Kommerzialrat Wedl and 41% by the Hofmann family.

Like the other Austrian wholesalers Pfeiffer, Julius Kiennast and Kastner, Wedl is a partner of the Nah & Frisch umbrella organization MARKANT Austria . As a wholesaler, the Weld trading company supplies its own Nah & Frisch market in Hall as well as around 50 independent Nah & Frisch merchants in Tyrol and Vorarlberg. For 2018, a turnover of 12 million euros and a total sales area of 6,762 m² were stated for the Nah & Frisch area.
