history

The history of OHG Selgros Gesellschaft für Großhandel mbH & Co begins in 1948 with the opening of the first Agros wholesale.

The first Selgros store was founded in Offenbach am Main in 1959 . The opening of the first Fegro store took place in Eschborn im Taunus in 1966 by FW Fertsch & Cie. GmbH instead.

In 1979 Otto GmbH & Co KG took over shares in Fegro with the branches in Eschborn and Rodgau, as well as Mannheim. In 1986 the Agros markets in Hamburg, Metjendorf near Oldenburg, Bochum, Duisburg, Hilden and Cologne-Pesch were taken over, which were then renamed Fegro.

In 1989 the administrations of Fegro and Selgros were merged in a joint venture under the OHG FEGRO / SELGROS Gesellschaft für Großhandel mbH & Co. The names of the markets were retained, the company was only renamed. The shareholders of the joint venture were 50 percent each, the Otto Group Hamburg and the Rewe Group in Cologne. On March 13, 2008, the Cologne-based Rewe Group took over the 50 percent stake from the joint venture partner Otto Group with retroactive effect to February 29, 2008.

On October 27, 2008, the retail groups Rewe Group and Coop agreed to found a new joint venture under the name Transgourmet Holding AG . From now on, the international business efforts of the two companies will be bundled under the umbrella of Transgourmet Holding. The holding company manages the activities of the Selgros Group, Rewe-Foodservice GmbH and Transgourmet Schweiz AG. On January 10, 2011, the Coop Cooperative took over 100% of Transgourmet Holding.
