Background and story

The Grammy Awards (actually Grammophone Awards), which have been presented since 1958, are presented annually in numerous categories by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) in the United States of America for artistic achievement, technical competence and excellent overall performance regardless of the album - Honor sales or chart position. The award was given for high-quality albums from the Norteño music field .

The category was moved from the Best Mexican / Mexican-American Album category , but after three years it was merged with the Grammy Award for Best Banda Album to form the Best Banda or Norteño Album category . However, this was also only awarded for one year and then combined with Best Regional Mexican or Tejano Album in the new category Best Regional Mexican Music Album (Including Tejano) and no longer continued independently.

The Californian Norteño band Los Tigres del Norte won the award in the first two years, and in the third year it went to the Texan band Intocable .
