Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album

The Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album ( German  Grammy Award for the best Latin jazz album ) is a music prize that has been awarded annually at the Grammy Awards since 1995 . It honors important works of Latin jazz . It is only given to artists who have recorded over 51% new for this album in their album. From 1995 to 2001 the award was called the Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Performance before the name was changed to the Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album .

History and background

The Grammy Awards (actually Grammophone Awards ), which were first given in 1959, are presented annually in the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in the United States for exceptional achievement, technical competence and outstanding overall achievement. Chart positions or total sales of the respective albums are ignored.

The first winner was Arturo Sandoval , who received the award in 1995 for his album Danzón (Dance On) .

At the Grammy Awards in 2012 the prize was not awarded, he together with the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Album, Individual or Group and the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album of the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album slammed. For the 55th Grammy Awards, however, it is planned again.

The award has been given ten times to Cuban and eight times to American artists, as well as one time to a Brazilian artist and one time to artists from the Dominican Republic. The artist with the most of these prizes is Chucho Valdés , who received him three times. Charlie Haden , Paquito D'Rivera and Arturo Sandoval each won the award twice.
