Héctor Hugo Eugui (born February 18, 1947 in Mercedes , Soriano Department ) is a Uruguayan football coach and former player on the position of striker .

Player career

society

Eugui first played for his hometown club Bristol de Mercedes, with whom he won a championship in 1966. In 1966 he moved to Club Nacional and finally signed his first professional contract there . With the Bolsos he won the championship in 1969. His next career station was the Club Atlético Cerro . There he took third place in the Primera División in 1970 with his teammates . Defensor Sporting , Nacional, and again Cerro are named as its employers during that period. Through an engagement with the Argentinos Juniors , Eugui's way led to Mexico at the end of 1971 , where he was under contract with Deportivo Toluca for the next six years and won the championship in the 1974/75 season . In 1978 he moved to the UANL Tigres , for whom he played until 1980 and with whom he once again reached the finals for the Mexican championship of the 1979/80 season, but against the capital club Cruz Azul (with 0: 1 and 3: 3) was defeated.

National team

Eugui also played in the Uruguayan Olympic team as part of the World Cup qualification.

Coaching

Eugui began his coaching activity as one of the youngest coaches in Mexican football at the age of 35 at CF Monterrey , the arch-rival of his last club, Tigres.

Even after that, Eugui often coached teams from northern Mexico. Among other things, both teams from the border town of Juarez when they played in the first division : first (1990–1991) the Cobras and later (2008–2009) the Indios . Under his direction, the climber of the previous year (Indios) reached the semi-finals of the Clausura 2009 and switched off his former club and previous year's champion Toluca on the way there. Apart from the Honduran runner-up with Real España in the 1995/96 season, this was his greatest success as a coach to date, which was followed by the previous low point at the end of the 2011/12 season when the team he coached in the Clausura 2012 (second half of the season) Estudiantes Tecos had to relegate to the second division .
