content

The film pays homage to outstanding Latin jazz artists. These include artists from Brazil (such as the pianist Eliane Elias ), from Cuba (such as the saxophonist and conductor Paquito D'Rivera , the pianists Bebo Valdés and Chucho Valdés ), Spanish artists (such as the pianist Chano Domínguez ), artists from Santo Domingo (like the pianist and composer Michel Camilo ), from Puerto Rico or the USA (like Tito Puente and Jerry González ) and from Argentina ( Gato Barbieri ). The film's writers visit the places where the different branches of this genre developed, especially New York City and Havana . The film mixes rhythms and sounds of Latin American music (like rumba and samba ) with the harmonies and structures of jazz. In the various scenes, the most important artists and their bands are presented in detail, mostly with one of their pieces.

The title of the film is derived from the address of the Sony Music Studios, where large parts of the film were recorded. These are located in New York City on 54th Street .
