Let the Good Times Roll is a song first released in 1946 by Louis Jordan and his Tympany Five . The song was written by Sam Theard , a New Orleans born blues singer, and is copyrighted by Fleecie Moore, Louis Jordan's third wife. But Jordan himself was probably the author, as he often gave the name of his wife in order to circumvent restrictions on publishing. The song became a standard of rhythm and blues and was covered by numerous musicians. He reached number two on the Billboard Race Records chart .

Cover versions have been made by BB King , Ray Charles (this version won a Grammy for Best Rhythm and Blues Performance in 1960 ), Jerry Lee Lewis , Delbert McClinton , Ben E. King , Alexis Korner 's Blues Incorporated , Koko Taylor, among others and Her Blues Machine and the Climax Blues Band .

The title of the song was also chosen by the English jazz author John Chilton for his Jordan biography, as did BB King for his tribute album to Louis Jordan ( Let the Good Times Roll: The Music of Louis Jordan )
