Jamison Ross

Jamison Ross (born November 12, 1987 in Jacksonville (Florida) ) is an American jazz musician ( drums , vocals ).

Ross played drums and sang in his grandfather's church, and studied music at Douglas Anderson High School and Florida State University with bachelor's degrees in jazz and the University of New Orleans with master's degrees in music. At a jazz workshop by Betty Carter at the Kennedy Center in Washington, he met the singer-songwriter Carmen Lundy , in whose band he played and with whom he recorded. After winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk competition in 2012, he received a recording contract with Concord Jazz ; In 2015 his debut album was released, on which he also sang. He impressed not only as a drummer, but also as a singer and the album was nominated for a Grammy (for jazz singing ). He was accompanied by Jon Batiste (band leader of Stephen Colbert's Late Night Show ).

In 2018 he was the "Rising Star" in the critical poll of the Down Beat in the jazz singing field .
