In 2003 she graduated from the Australian National University with a degree in Art History and Board of Trustees . She then worked as a projectionist in the cinema and on a farm .

Career

Stand up

It began when she emerged victorious from the 2006 Australian show Raw Comedy finale . Since 2007 she has appeared regularly as a stand-up comedian, first in Australia and New Zealand and later in England , Scotland and the USA .

Nanette

She achieved international fame through her autobiographical show Nanette , which Netflix recorded in its library. Douglas

On the show, she explores new personal revelations and, according to a reviewer of the preview show, creates something "bigger than comedy". Gadsby says she doesn't care what people call the show, and is aimed at men who complained on social media that Nanette was "not a comedy but a lecture". This show can also be seen on Netflix from March 26, 2020.

Art lectures, television appearances and TV series

In association with the National Gallery of Victoria , she started performing in 2009 with comedic lectures on art-related topics such as the nude (art) , Dadaism , Impressionism , the modern .

She co-wrote 20 episodes of the Please Like Me series (2013-2016) and played Hannah, a fictional version of herself.

Private life

Gadsby is openly lesbian and often references her sexuality in her stand-up routines . She was diagnosed with ADHD and autism in 2017 . She references her autism on her 2019 show Douglas to help people understand neurodiversity as part of a normal variation in the human condition.
