Yefim Bronfman
Yefim Bronfman ( Hebrew יפים ברונפמן; * April 10, 1958 in Tashkent , Uzbek SSR ) is an American- Israeli pianist .
Life
His father was a concertmaster in the opera orchestra and his mother was a pianist . Emil Gilels and David Oistrach also belonged to his father's circle of friends . He was trained as a pianist and played twelve years, the first piano concerto by Sergei Rachmaninoff . When he was 14 years old, he emigrated with his parents to Israel , where he studied with Arie Vardi . He continued his studies in the USA with Rudolf Serkin and Leon Fleisher . He made his international debut with Zubin Mehta and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra in 1975. Today he is one of the most famous pianists in the world.
Awards (selection)
- 1997: Grammy Award in the category of best solo instrument performance with orchestra for the recording of Bartók. The three piano concertos with the Los Angeles Philharmonics , conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen
