Joseph Moog
Joseph Moog (born December 26, 1987 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German pianist and composer . The Young Steinway Artist was named Young Artist of the Year 2015 at the Gramophone Classical Music Awards . He is a two-time winner of the International Classical Music Award (ICMA).
life and career
Joseph Moog is the son of two orchestral musicians and was born in 1987 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. At the age of four he began playing the piano and composing in a musical environment and was accepted as a young student at the Karlsruhe University of Music at the age of ten . At the age of twelve the young pianist made his debut in Rio de Janeiro and started his international career. He studied with Bernd Glemser at the University of Music in Würzburg and with Arie Vardi at the University of Music, Drama and Media in Hanover .
Joseph Moog performs internationally on the one hand with the current classical, romantic and modern piano repertoire, on the other hand he has also made a name for himself with numerous rarities ( Leopold Godowsky , Ferruccio Busoni , Anton G. Rubinstein , Moritz Moszkowski , Ignaz Friedman and many others. ). His concerts take him to major European cities such as London, Amsterdam, Paris, Prague, Rotterdam, Rome, Berlin, Zurich and Hamburg, as well as to Asia, the USA and South America.
Joseph Moog works with numerous orchestras ( Colorado Symphony Orchestra , Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra , Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern , Slovenian Philharmonic , Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio , Sinfonia Varsovia , Orchester du Pays de la Loire , Flanders Symphony Orchestra , German State Philharmonic Rhineland-Palatinate , Brno Philharmonic Orchestra ) and conductors together, such as Andrey Boreyko , Juanjo Mena , Gilbert Varga , Christoph Poppen , Pablo González , Nicholas Milton , Ari Rasilainen , Marcus Bosch , Toshiyuki Kamioka , John Axelrod , Fabrice Bollon , Karl-Heinz Steffens , Theodor Guschlbauer , Petr Altrichter , Patrick Lange , Othmar Maga , Philippe Entremont , Markus Poschner or Michael Sanderling .
Recordings
In 2007 he published the two piano concertos and the dance of death by Franz Liszt with the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz under the direction of Ari Rasilainen . Further CDs: “Metamorphose (n)” (2009) with transcriptions by Liszt, Busoni, Godowsky, Moszkowski and Friedman. In 2010 the CD "Divergences" was released with solo works by Joseph Jongen , Max Reger and Alexander Scriabin . Both recordings received the SuperSonic Award from Luxembourg magazine Pizzicato . For the anniversary of the composer Franz Liszt in 2011, a Liszt recital was published with original works and arrangements based on compositions by Bach, Beethoven and Schubert. In February 2012, Moog's debut album was released on Onyx Classics. It contains the piano concertos N ° 4 by Anton G. Rubinstein and N ° 3 by Sergej Rachmaninoff . In 2013 Moog's solo CD " Scarlatti Illuminated" was released - also on Onyx Classics. Joseph Moog can already refer to an extensive discography for which, in addition to top reviews in the international press, he has also received numerous prizes and awards. His eighth CD, on which he combined Tchaikovsky's “Grande Sonate” with Xaver Scharwenka's second sonata, was released in June 2014. Together with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie under the direction of Nicholas Milton , Joseph Moog performed the piano concertos by Grieg and Moszkowski for Onyx Classics recorded. The CD was released in early 2015.
Awards
Joseph Moog was named Young Artist of the Year 2015 at the Gramophone Classical Music Awards . As part of the International Classical Music Award 2014 he was awarded a prize in the category "Solo Instrumentalist of the Year 2014" for his CD "Scarlatti Illuminated" and in 2012 he was named "Young Artist of the Year". He also received numerous awards such as the Audience Award at the Kissinger Piano Olympics 2005, the Music Award of the Association of German Concert Directors in 2006, the “Prix Groupe Edmond de Rothschild” in 2006, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Award in 2006, the Award for Young Artists Rhineland-Palatinate in 2008 and the “Rhein-Mosel Music Prize” 2008. Moog is also a prize winner of the “International Orpheum Foundation Zurich” and in 2009 was accepted into the group of “Young Steinway Artists”.
In his recitals, Joseph Moog repeatedly performs his own compositions. In April 2010, Peter Cossé wrote in the magazine Klassik Heute that Moog was “one of the most interesting interpreters of his generation and one of the most striking phenomena in contemporary music life”.
