Patrick Lange (conductor)
Patrick Lange (born April 12, 1981 in Roth ) is a German conductor.
Life
Patrick Lange grew up in Greding ( Middle Franconia ). He began his musical training in the boys' choir of the Regensburger Domspatzen , where he sang under the cathedral orchestra masters Georg Ratzinger and Roland Büchner . At the age of twelve he received his first conducting lessons at the Regensburg City Theater . At the age of 16 he conducted his first production, the musical A funny thing happend on the way to the Forum by Stephen Sondheim . After graduating from high school, he studied conducting with Hans-Rainer Förster and Peter Falk at the University of Music in Würzburg and with Johannes Schlaefli at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
In 2005 Patrick Lange was accepted into the Conductors' Forum of the German Music Council . In the same year Claudio Abbado appointed him assistant conductor of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra . As Abbado's assistant he also worked with the Berliner Philharmoniker , the Orchestra Mozart Bologna and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra . In 2007 Patrick Lange received the European Promotion Prize for Young Conductors , and in 2009 the Eugen Jochum Scholarship from the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra .
In 2007 he made his debut at the Komische Oper Berlin . Since 2008/09 he worked there as first Kapellmeister and from 2010 to 2012 as chief conductor.
In 2009 he made his debut at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera , 2010 at the Vienna State Opera and 2011 at the Royal Opera House in London. In 2012 he conducted for the first time at the Semperoper in Dresden , a year later at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich . In 2013 engagements at the Hamburg State Opera and the Sydney Opera followed . The following year, Patrick Lange made his debut at the Korean National Opera in Seoul and at the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. In 2015 he worked for the first time at the Paris Opera . Since the 2017/18 season he has been general music director of the Hessian State Theater Wiesbaden .
Since his debuts, Patrick Lange has been a regular guest conductor at the Vienna State Opera and the Paris Opera.
Patrick Lange is a member of the artistic advisory board of the Young Euro Classic festival in Berlin and of the board of trustees of the Bayreuth Festival of Young Artists .

- 2007: European culture award in the category of advancement award for young conductors
