Peter Falk (conductor)

Peter Gottfried Falk (born April 20, 1937 in Greiz ) is a German conductor .

Falk first studied business administration at the Technical University of Berlin and graduated with a degree in business administration. From 1963 to 1967 he studied conducting at the State University for Music in Berlin, where he passed his Kapellmeister exam. As director of studies, later as first conductor, he began his musical career at the Stadttheater Koblenz and in 1977 changed to the State Theater on Gärtnerplatz in Munich and as first conductor under Michael Gielen at the Frankfurt Opera . In 1979, as Staatskapellmeister, he became chief conductor at the Munich State Theater on Gärtnerplatz.

His appointment as professor of conducting at the Opera School of the University of Music Würzburg took place in 1983. Two years later he also assumed the position of principal conductor at hr -Rundfunkorchester in Frankfurt. From 1993 to 2001 he was chief conductor of the SWR radio orchestra , with which he continued to work closely until the orchestra merged with the Saarland Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2007. In 1993 he was awarded the “Harlequin” by the city of Frankfurt as an audience award for special artistic achievements.

Falk works as a guest conductor at almost all German broadcasting companies and has been hired several times abroad, including Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, China and Korea. He opened the Wiener Festwochen with the Wiener Symphoniker in 1986 and produced Kiss me Kate with them at the Bregenz Festival in 1983 . The Frankfurt Radio Orchestra and the Pepe Lienhard Band conducted Falk on the Udo Jürgens European tour with the “Open Air Symphony” program. This production was also recorded on CD and video.

Falk has remained closely connected to Berlin's cultural life since he was a student. The SFB has numerous recordings with the Berlin Studio Orchestra. He has been working together for many years with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra , which he a. a. conducted several concerts as part of the “Open Air Klassik” in Berlin's Hoppegarten.

Falk has also conducted concerts and television productions with opera stars such as Cecilia Bartoli , Montserrat Caballé , Katia Ricciarelli , Vesselina Kasarova , Helen Donath , Diana Damrau and René Kollo , Hermann Prey , Renato Bruson , Wolfgang Brendel , Francisco Araiza , Jonas Kaufmann and Dmitri Hvorostovsky .

He has conducted several concerts with Lucia Aliberti , including in Munich, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Milan and the Semperoper Dresden, as well as the opening concert of the Classic Open Air Festival on the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra 2005.

Falk is regularly invited to CD recordings. He produced numerous musical recordings as well as various singer portraits.
