Wolfgang Brendel
Wolfgang Brendel (born October 20, 1947 in Munich ) is a German opera singer ( baritone ).
Life
Brendel grew up in Wiesbaden, where he initially took singing lessons from Rolff Sartorius in parallel to his school education . In 1971 he made his debut at the Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern as Guglielmo in Così fan tutte . There he also sang the role of Giorgio Germont in La traviata . At the time he was the youngest singer in this role in German-speaking countries. This was followed by 15 years of permanent engagement at the State Opera in Munich, where he was named the youngest chamber singer at the time in 1977 . In addition to the major roles in his field, his repertoire also includes the buffo parts of the operetta .
Brendel is a permanent guest at all the major opera houses around the world, and until 2011 he was a full professor at the University of Music and Theater in Munich . In 1997 he was awarded the Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
