from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dean Dillon (born March 26, 1955 in Lake City , Tennessee ) is an American country singer and songwriter .

Life

First steps

Dean was already writing songs when he was eleven and had his first public appearances at the age of thirteen. He then played for a few years in nearby Knoxville . After finishing school he moved to Nashville . He made his way into the country scene through the songwriter Frank Dycus . From 1976 he worked at the Opryland amusement park for four years . As a member of the Mac McGahey Quartet , he played Hank Williams on stage . In these years he came increasingly under the influence of alcohol and other drugs .

Career

In 1979 Dillon began composing again. Barbara Mandrell recorded some of his songs. Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius reached number one on the country charts with his Lying Here In Love With You . It was primarily George Strait who used his material. In total, Dean Dillon wrote about forty songs for the country music superstar, including some number 1 hits. He became one of the most sought-after songwriters of the 1980s. In addition to Strait, George Jones , Steve Wariner , David Allan Coe and Vern Gosdin recorded his songs.

Parallel to his activities as a songwriter, Dillon also produced his own records. In 1979 he reached a middle spot in the country charts with his debut single I'm Into The Bottle . More moderately successful records followed. In 1982 he teamed up with singer Gary Stewart . This collaboration resulted in two albums. Stewart, who had just gone through rehab, was also heavily addicted to alcohol and other drugs, only exacerbating Dillon's problems. The partnership soon broke up and he withdrew from the public for a few years. Eventually he managed to quell his addiction. He married and became a father.

In the meantime, others were successful with his songs, so he continued to do business. In 1988 he began to record again. His most successful album Out Of Your Ever-Lovin 'Mind was released in 1991.
