Brandi Carlile (born June 1, 1981 in Ravensdale, Washington ) is an American singer-songwriter and four-time Grammy award winner.

biography

Brandi Carlile grew up in her rural home with country music and when she was eight she was on stage with her mother for the first time. After that she discovered more rock music for herself and went to Seattle at the age of 17, where she performed as a solo and accompanist. She later formed a rock & roll band with twins Tim and Phil Hanseroth, in which Carlile's songwriting folk rock style began to dominate. Since then the Hanseroths have been their regular accompanists and have been involved in the creation of their songs.

In the early 2000s she made her own recordings for self-distribution and in 2004 she was discovered and signed by the major Columbia label . Her debut album brought her an entry in Rolling Stone's list of promising artists the following year (“10 Artists to Watch in 2005”).

Brandi Carlile had the first big success with her second album The Story two years later. It was produced by T-Bone Burnett . It got a special boost from the use of their songs in the US series Grey's Anatomy . The album was on the US charts for 25 weeks and the theme song made it to the Billboard Hot 100 for a week . It was even more successful in some European countries, for example in Norway and Portugal, where it made it into the top 10 of the charts.

Her third album Give Up the Ghost was created with the participation of Elton John and Chad Smith, among others, and was released in October 2009. With "Bear Creek" her fourth studio album was released on June 1, 2012, which reached number 10 on the Billboard Charts and thus her so far most successful publication is.

In 2017 the cover album “Cover Stories” was released on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of “The Story” . a. Artists like Adele, Dolly Parton and Pearl Jam reinterpreted the songs. The proceeds go to the organization "War Child", an aid project for children in war zones.
