Rascal Flatts is an American country band.
It was founded by cousins Jay DeMarcus (born April 27, 1971 in Columbus , Ohio ) and Gary LeVox (born July 10, 1970 in Columbus, Ohio). Later guitarist Joe Don Rooney (born September 13, 1975 in Baxter Springs , Kansas ) joined them.
Band history
Jay and Gary were already making music in their family circle , but while DeMarcus joined Christian music band East And West in 1992 , LeVox was pursuing a civil profession. In 1997 he was persuaded to also get into the music business. While playing in Chely Wright's backing band , they met Joe Don Rooney. When their backing guitarist was canceled at a gig by Jay and Gary, Joe Don stepped in, and the Rascal Flatts had found each other.
successes
They came to the Disney Music Group's Lyric Street Records label and released their debut album in 2000. The album Rascal Flatts and the first single from it, Prayin 'for Daylight , went straight to number 3 on the country charts. Their musical mixture of country, pop and rhythm and blues made them interesting for a wider audience and so they were able to land respectable successes in the pop charts.
The follow-up album Melt was their first country number one album. Even the excitement about short nude scenes in the video for the single I Melt , which only subsided after the release of an adjusted version, did not detract from their success.
With the third album Feels Like Today they could conquer number 1 in the Top 200, the official US album charts. Almost all of her singles reached the top 10 of the country charts, five of them number 1, eight made it into the top 40 of the pop charts.
In 2006 the band contributed the song Life Is a Highway , originally by Tom Cochrane , to the soundtrack of the Pixar animated film Cars . In 2009 two of her songs were part of the soundtrack for Hannah Montana - The Movie .
Awards
Rascal Flatts received a total of seven CMA Awards from the Country Music Association between 2002 and 2008 , including six years in a row as Vocal Group of the Year . Between 2000 and 2008 they also received ten ACM Awards from the Academy of Country Music . For Bless the Broken Road they were awarded the 2006 Grammy for Best Country Song. In January 2008 they won the " People's Choice Award ".
Her first album went double platinum , Feels Like Today went five times platinum, and her 2006 album Me and My Gang entered the charts at number 1 and was once again sold over a million in two weeks. With the first single from it, What Hurts the Most , which already reached the British charts in the version by Jo O'Meara (Ex- S Club 7 ), they penetrated the top 10 of the US pop charts for the first time.
Trivia
In episode 14 of the 10th season of CSI: On the trail of the perpetrators, the band's bass player is electrocuted during a stage performance. The song they play in this episode is Unstoppable .
