Love Can Build a Bridge is a song written by Naomi Judd , Paul Overstreet and John Barlow Jarvis and recorded by the American country duo The Judds . It appeared on the album of the same name in September 1990 and was released as the second single on the album in December 1990. The song peaked at number 5 on Billboard Hot Country Songs in 1991.

Love Can Build a Bridge is a country ballad about sticking together. For co-author Naomi Judd, it was a farewell message to her fans since she was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 1991 , which can be fatal.

Cover versions

The cover version of "Children for Rwanda" for the benefit of the organization Save the Children came in 1994 at number 57 on the UK Singles Chart . In 1995 Cher , Chrissie Hynde and Neneh Cherry released a cover version with Eric Clapton , which even topped the UK Singles Chart. This version was voted the official song of the Comic Relief charity in 1995 .

Declan Galbraith sang the song on his debut album in 2002. The Irish boy band Westlife took it for their eighth studio album, The Love Album on.

10-year-old Britney Spears sang the song on the 1991 talent show Star Search .

The song's title was also used as the name of a television series about the duo The Judds in 1995: Naomi & Wynonna: Love Can Build a Bridge .
