Dan + Shay

Dan + Shay are an American country pop duo.

Band history

Daniel Smyers is from Pennsylvania in the northeastern United States, Shay Mooney from the southern state of Arkansas. Both made music from their youth and also wrote their own songs. Both went to Nashville after school , where they met in December 2012 and formed a duo.

The following year Dan + Shay signed a record deal with Warner and released their first single, 19 You + Me, written together with Danny Orton . This not only made them into the top 10 of the US country charts right away, but also to 42nd place on the official single charts . The song sold over a million copies and went platinum . In April 2014 they released their debut album Where It All Began and reached number one position in the country charts. It brought two more chart singles, including the top 5 hit Nothin 'like You , which was awarded a gold record.

The duo released their second album, Obsessed , in mid-2016, making it their second Top 10 album on the Billboard 200 . In the country charts they missed their second number one by one place. With the song From the Ground Up they advanced to number 3 in the country charts and achieved their third single award with a gold record.

At the CMA Awards , from 2014 to 2016, they were nominated three times in the category singing duo of the year , but received no distinction.

In 2020 they received the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo / Group Performance at the Grammy Awards for the single Speechless .
