Beth Nielsen Chapman (born September 14, 1958 in Harlingen , Texas ) is an American singer and composer .

Chapman grew up as the middle of five siblings. Shortly after her marriage to Ernest Chapman in 1980 (according to other sources, the couple married in 1979) Beth Nielsen Chapman released her first album; the following year their son Ernest jr. born. In the following years she made a name for herself more and more and worked with many well-known artists, including Bonnie Raitt and Paul Carrack (1993) and Neil Diamond (1996). Since the 1990s it has been regularly featured in the charts, mostly in the USA.

Her husband Ernest died of cancer in 1994 and the album Sand and Water was created , which is strongly influenced by Chapman's feelings from this time. The theme song Sand and Water was sung by Elton John at many concerts in 1997 . Chapman himself developed breast cancer in 2001 . One of the peculiarities of their musical performance is the album Hymns , released in 2004 , on which hymns are almost exclusively sung in Latin . It reached the top 30 in the Christian and Independent Charts in the USA.
