Mel McDaniel (born September 6, 1942 in Checotah , Oklahoma , † March 31, 2011 ) was an American country singer and songwriter . He had his greatest successes in the 1980s.

biography

His musical career began in high school, where he played in several student bands. After establishing himself as a musician in the bars and clubs of his hometown of Tulsa , Oklahoma , he briefly moved to Nashville before settling in Anchorage , Alaska . He wrote songs for Conway Twitty , Kenny Rogers and Bobby Goldsboro , among others .

In 1976 McDaniel returned to Nashville, where he received a recording deal. He released a variety of singles in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He had his first success with the single Have a Dream on Me , before his career culminated in a series of top ten country hits in the 1980s. He had his first top ten hit with Louisiana Saturday Night . He had his greatest success in 1984 with Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On .

McDaniel performed as a musician to the end, usually in the Grand Ole Opry , which he was inducted into in 1986.
