Checotah is a city with over 3000 inhabitants in the east of the US state Oklahoma . It is located near the Eufala Reservoir, more precisely at 35 ° 28 '19 "N 95 ° 31' 26" W. Checotah has an area of 23.3 square kilometers. The city is called the "Steerwrestling Capital of the World".

In the course of the railroad track construction in the USA at the end of the 19th century, Oklahoma was also opened up. In 1888 Robert Burton founded the city, it was named after Samuel Checote, a chief of the Muskogee Indian people .
