Gretchen Wilson
Gretchen Wilson (born June 26, 1973 in Pocahontas , Illinois ) is an American country singer and songwriter .
biography
Gretchen Wilson comes from a humble background in a village with about 700 inhabitants. Her mother was only 16 years old when she was born, and her father left mother and daughter two years later. At the age of 15, Wilson moved out and initially worked as a waitress.
In 1996 she decided to move to Nashville - without having completed any training - where Wilson worked as a background singer in the “Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar” in Printers Alley and recorded demo tapes at the same time. In 2000 she was discovered by the musicians Big & Rich , who heard them sing a few pieces with the house band. In the same year their daughter Grace Frances Penner was born.
Eventually, Wilson signed a recording deal with Epic Records . Her debut album Here for the Party from 2003 sold five million copies and went platinum five times . In the same year she was recognized by the Academy of Country Music Awards in the categories "Top Female Vocalist" and "Top New Artist". In 2005 her second album All Jacked Up was released .
Gretchen Wilson represents a strictly traditional style of music, enriched with rock elements . In her lyrics she often describes her own life experiences and circumstances, e.g. B. as a waitress.
After two failures on country radio in the USA ( Don't Do Me No Good , The Earring Song ), Gretchen Wilson lost her record deal with Sony Music Nashville on July 28, 2009 .
