Deana Carter
Deana Carter (born January 4, 1966 in Nashville , Tennessee ) is an American country singer and occasional actress.
Beginnings
As the daughter of the well-known session guitarist Fred Carter Jr. from Nashville, Deana came into contact with country music at an early age. A first attempt to get a contract with a record company failed in 1983. So she initially decided to train as a rehabilitation therapist. During her studies at the University of Texas , she made her first appearances as a singer. At 23, she started writing songs and learned to play the guitar.
Career
Willie Nelson , who knew Deana Carter as a child, one day listened to a demo tape she had produced and then invited her to a Farm Aid concert. Shortly thereafter, she received a contract from Capitol Records. In 1996 the album Did I Shave My Legs for This? released. The song Strawberry Wine , taken from this CD and composed by Matraca Berg , reached number 1 in the country charts and was CMA single of the year. Her debut album went platinum five times , and other single releases reached top positions.
For the songs she contributed to the soundtracks of the films Hope Floats and Anastasia , Carter received a Grammy and a Golden Globe nomination, as well as an Oscar nomination for Once upon a December from Anastasia . She sang in front of President Clinton at a televised Christmas party . Her album Everything's Gonna Be Alright , released in 1998, was unable to build on the success of Did I Shave My Legs for This . But it reached gold status and some songs were able to place in the middle of the country charts.
A little later she left her record label. In 2003 she made a short-term comeback on the Arista label with the album I'm Just a Girl and the single There's No Limit .
On the album The Chain , Carter presented cover versions of well-known country and folk classics in 2007, some in duets with the original artists such as Dolly Parton , Kris Kristofferson , George Jones or Willie Nelson . Like its predecessor, The Story of My Life , the work was released on the Vanguard label , which is primarily known for its folk and blues releases.
Her album Southern Way of Life , which was released in 2013, was included a year later by Allmusic in the list of the best country albums of the year with the rating "that it was surprisingly New Wave influenced and consistently satisfactory".
Carter occasionally tries himself as an actress, mostly in smaller roles. Bigger ones did not emerge until 2017 with Painted Horses and the TV movie A Very Country Christmas .
