Dickey Lee (real name Royden Dickey Lipscomb ) (born September 21, 1936 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American country and rock 'n' roll singer and songwriter .

Even with his school band, Dickey Lee managed to earn a permanent place on the local radio program; the DJ in charge then got Dickey a solo record deal with Sun Records . His first two singles, which he recorded in 1957, were not particularly successful; It wasn't until 1962 that he achieved his first hit with “Patches”, which climbed to position 6 in the charts . At the same time, country singer George Jones had one of his greatest hits with Dickey Lee's "She Thinks I Still Care". Now the breakthrough was made, with “I Saw Linda Yesterday” (# 14 1963) another success followed. After the moderate performance of his single Don't Want To Think About Paula , which only reached number 68 on the pop charts, Lee left the Smash Records label and switched to the small TCF Hall Records label in early 1965 , where he got the opportunity to record his own tracks to produce. After his hit "Laurie (Strange Things Happen)", which reached number 14 in mid-1965, the song The Girl From Peyton Place , which reached number 73, made his last place in the pop charts until 1976. The late 1960s were busy Dickey Lee became increasingly involved in writing and producing songs for other artists.

He turned to country music and was a hit with Austin Roberts with Delaney Bramlet's "Never Ending Song Of Love" (9/71 C&W 8) and "Rocky" (8/75 C&W 1) - Original and in Germany for Frank Farian - "Angels, Roses, And Rain" (1/76 C&W 9) and "9,999,999 Tears" (9/76 C&W 3, 11/76 US 52) were successful. Until 1982 he was represented in the C&W hit parade.

Since the end of his record deal with Mercury Records , he has occasionally appeared on stage with colleagues from the "old days" and continues to write pop songs.
