Brandy Lynn Clark (* 1977 in Morton , Washington ) is an American songwriter and country singer .

biography

At the age of nine, Brandy learned to play the guitar and made music for himself. At school, however, she successfully focused on playing basketball. It wasn't until later that she gave up the sport and joined local bands with whom she performed. In 1998 she went to Nashville , where she started studying music economics at Belmont University. As a songwriter, she then found an employer in Leadership Music . She had her first successes from 2010, when Reba McEntire recorded two of her songs. Her greatest successes were Better Dig Two by The Band Perry and Mama's Broken Heart by Miranda Lambert , which reached number one and two on the US country charts. At the Grammy Awards 2014 she received a nomination in the category Best Country Song for the latter song . She received a CMA award for Follow Your Arrow , a top ten hit for Kacey Musgraves .

During this time, Brandy Clark also appeared as a singer in Nashville , partly together with her songwriting partner Shane McAnally . From 2012 she pushed her solo career and brought out an EP as an independent publication. She played in the opening act for Sheryl Crow and had an appearance in the Grand Ole Opry that year . Her debut album 12 Stories was released the following year . Despite critical acclaim, however, it did not go beyond number 23 on the country charts. The album also did not contain a single hit. Even so, Clark was nominated for Best Newcomer at the CMA Awards. She was also a candidate in the newcomer category at the following Grammy Awards and 12 stories were nominated for the best country album category.
