Michaela Andörfer

Michaela Christine Andörfer ( Sr. Maria Michaela of the Most Holy Trinity ; * October 25, 1928 in Cottbus ; † September 26, 2014 in Berlin ) was a Roman Catholic nun and long-time superior general of the Hedwig Sisters .

Life

Michaela Andörfer grew up in Döbern as the daughter of a sheet glass cutter who immigrated from Bohemia . Here she also got to know the religious order of the Hedwig Sisters, who had a branch in Döbern. On June 13, 1950, she was dressed in the mother house of the order in Berlin-Wannsee and made perpetual profession in 1957 .

She received her training in music, Montessori pedagogy and manual work, which she implemented in working with mentally and learning disabled children. She played a decisive role in the development of the Sancta Maria children's home for special needs education and the associated school in Berlin-Wannsee.

In 1969 she was elected Superior General at the first general chapter of the Hedwig Sisters after the Second World War and held this office until 2005.

In 1986, at the request of the Berlin Senate , she took over the care of a group of HIV- infected toddlers, when other institutions refused to do this in view of the general uncertainty about the disease.

On September 9, 1998 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .

From 2011 until her death, she again assumed leadership responsibility as the Provincial Superior of the German Province of the Hedwig Sisters.

She found her final resting place in the forest cemetery in Zehlendorf .
