Sheet glass

The term sheet glass mainly includes all industrially manufactured glass with a smooth surface on both sides (window glass, picture glass, etc.). The original blowing and stretching of the sheet glass is only used for types of glass such as colored glass or "real" antique glass , for which mass production is not worthwhile.

In the mechanical drawing process, exact glass thicknesses can be maintained, which are divided into thickness categories:

  • about 4 mm (DD, double thickness), even thick glass called
  • From 1.8 to 4 mm (MD, average thickness), mainly as architectural glass used
  • under 1.8 mm (ED, single thickness), also known as thin glass , mainly used in picture frames or furniture glazing.
