Beaux Arts Trio
The Beaux Arts Trio was one of the most important piano trios in the world and was pioneering for 53 years, especially in the classical and romantic repertoire. Throughout its existence the trio was held together by the pianist Menahem Pressler .
history
In the original line-up in 1955 he played with violinist Daniel Guilet and cellist Bernard Greenhouse .
In the following years there were several changes in the line-up of violin and violoncello :
- Violin: Isidore Cohen (1969–1992, previously 2nd violinist in the Juilliard String Quartet ), Ida Kavafian (1992–1998), Yung Uck Kim (1998–2002), Daniel Hope (since 2002)
- Violoncello: Peter Wiley (1987–1998, switched to the Guarneri String Quartet when his teacher David Soyer left), Antonio Meneses (since 1998)
The longest and to a certain extent "classic" line-up was Pressler / Cohen / Greenhouse (1969–1987).
In 2008 the trio broke up. On August 23, 2009, however, the trio gave one last farewell concert as part of the Mendelssohn Festival 2009 in Leipzig.
Trivia
