Lisa Fischer
Lisa Fischer (born December 1, 1958 in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American singer , songwriter and two-time Grammy award winner. Her musical roots are in R&B , rock , soul , African and Caribbean styles, as well as classical influences. She had a number 1 hit single in the US in 1991 , How Can I Ease The Pain , and is one of the best background singers in the business. In the 1980s she was a member of the American singing group The Marvelettes and sang in the band of friend and mentor Luther Vandross for twenty years .
Career
Since the beginning of her career, Fischer has mainly worked as a background singer and has worked for musicians and stars such as Billy Greene , Melba Moore , Tina Turner , Chaka Khan , Nine Inch Nails , Sting , Aretha Franklin , Bobby McFerrin , George Benson , Diana Ross , Laurie Anderson , Teddy Pendergrass , Dionne Warwick , Grover Washington , Billy Ocean , Al Jarreau , Patti LaBelle and other notable artists. From the Steel Wheels Tour in 1989, with the exception of the Urban Jungle Tour in 1990 up to the Zip Code Tour in 2015, she regularly performed as a background singer on the Rolling Stones' tours .
In between she made repeated attempts at a solo activity. In 1992 Fischer finally won a Grammy Award for best female R&B performance for her song How Can I Ease the Pain from the album So Intense . In 1993 she sang the ballad Colors of Love , which appeared on the soundtrack album for the film Made in America . In the mid-1990s she reduced her solo ambitions again and worked as a studio singer for Atlantic Records and GRP Records .
In 2013, Fischer's career took an unexpected turn with the film " 20 Feet from Stardom ", an Oscar- winning documentary about the work of background singers, which also brought them back into public interest. Since 2016 she has been touring with her own band "Grand Baton".
