Mary Louise Wilson

Mary Louise Wilson (born November 12, 1931 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is an American actress . She gained notoriety through her appearances on Broadway as well as numerous supporting roles in well-known films and television series since the 1970s.

Life

Wilson was born in New Haven in 1931 and grew up in New Orleans . She began her acting career in 1963 on Broadway in New York with a role in the short-lived musical Hot Spot . In 1968, Wilson was part of the cast at the premiere of the musical Promises, Promises . Her other appearances on Broadway have included roles in Gypsy , The Importance of Being Earnest and Cabaret . In 2007 Wilson won the Tony Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for her performance in Gray Gardens , after she had been nominated for this award in 1998 for her performance as Miss Schneider in Cabaret . Her last stage appearance so far was in On the Twentieth Century in 2015 .

In 1971 Wilson made her film debut as a secretary in Klute . She played her first major film role in 1983 as Ruth Zelig in Woody Allen's Zelig . In the following years Wilson was seen in several supporting roles, including 1989 as Dory Goldmann in the horror film Friedhof der Kuscheltiere and 1990 as Jean in Everybody Wins . In 2013 she played the role of Aunt Martha in the Oscar-nominated drama Nebraska .

In addition to her stage and film career, Wilson has also appeared in television series since 1975. So she was 1976 to 1977 as Ginny Wroblicki in a total of fourteen episodes of the sitcom One Day at a Time . She had other appearances in Maude , Lou Grant , Cosby and Frasier . In 2000, Wilson appeared as Catharine Romano in an episode of The Sopranos . In 2016 and 2019 she was seen as Millie in one episode of the Netflix web series Orange Is the New Black .

Mary Louise Wilson is still active as an actress today. She was married to the actor Albert Cibelli, the marriage divorced after three years.
