Reviews

Vincent Canby wrote in the New York Times on December 20, 1978 that the melodrama about three generations of Gypsies had a lot of color but little substance. The film works in places - by the fact that some gypsies would ask the others to respect the king - like The Godfather .

Dave Kehr described the film in the Chicago Reader as "non-objective", "chaotic" and "rambling"; he has neither atmosphere nor energy. The direction is "half-hearted".

Eric Roberts was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Young Actor in 1979 .
