Dave Kehr

Dave Kehr (* 1953 ) is an American journalist and film critic .

Life

Dave Kehr studied English at the University of Chicago , where he learned French during his studies in order to be able to read film analyzes of the Cahiers du cinéma . After he wrote while studying for the student magazine The Maroon , he then worked from 1974 to 1985 for the Chicago Reader . From 1986 to 1992 he was a film critic at the Chicago Tribune and from 1993 to 1998 for the Daily News in New York City . Since 1999 he has written a weekly column on DVD publications for the New York Times . Because of his film expertise, he was a member of the jury at the Sundance Film Festival in 1993 and a year later at the 1994 Berlinale . He was also briefly Chairman of the Board of the National Society of Film Critics .

Kehr is known for tearing down films in his reviews and columns, which are generally rated particularly highly by both critics and viewers. These include: The boat , Raging Bull , Apocalypse Now , The Empire Strikes Back , Dog Day Afternoon and Alien - The sinister creature from another world . Otherwise, all of these films received ratings of 96 percent and more on the Rotten Tomatoes film portal . The boat was at 100 percent for some time until Kehr contributed the only negative review (as of September 2013) and did not attest the film any quality . In his reviews, Kehr pays particular attention to the visual style of a film and is a supporter of the author theory .
