Mack Wilberg

Mack Wilberg (* 1955 in Price , Utah ) is an American composer, arranger and choir director. Since 2008 he has been music director of the Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City .

Life

Mack Wilberg was born in Price, Utah in 1955, the son of LaMar Wilberg, partner and director of the Wilberg coal mine, and his wife Helen. He received piano lessons from early childhood. He was also a gifted clarinetist.

After graduating from high school, Wilberg served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Korea. He then took up his music studies at Brigham Young University in Provo , Utah, from which he graduated with a bachelor's degree. He then continued his music studies at the University of Southern California , where he earned a master's and a doctor's degree.

Wilberg was a professor of music at Brigham Young University. In 1999 he was appointed Assistant Music Director of the Tabernacle Choir and Conductor of the Temple Square Chorale, and on March 28, 2008, he succeeded Craig Jessop as Music Director of the Tabernacle Choir.

Works

Wilberg mainly composes and arranges choral works. He takes on Christmas carols, American folk songs and hymns. He publishes exclusively with Oxford University Press.
