Manuel Barrueco
Manuel Barrueco (born December 16, 1952 in Santiago de Cuba ) is a Cuban classical guitarist .
Life
Barrueco started playing guitar at the age of 8 and attended the Conservatorio Esteban Salas in his native Cuba. In 1967 he emigrated to the USA with his parents . There he was the only guitarist to study with Aaron Shearer at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore , where he is now a teacher. At the age of 22 he became the first guitarist to win the Concert Artists Guild Award in 1974 . In the same year he first appeared in New York's Carnegie Recital Hall . As part of his international concert activities, he played in numerous important concert halls such as B. the Royal Albert Hall in London , the Wiener Musikverein , the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Berlin Philharmonic .
Among other things, his interpretations of the 2nd and 4th lute suites by Johann Sebastian Bach and the etudes by Heitor Villa-Lobos, collected on the album 300 Years Of Guitar Masterpieces , became famous .
Barrueco is a co-founder of the guitar class at the Manhattan School of Music . He plays Robert Ruck's instruments.
