Lost Highway (English for. " Perished Expressway ") is the tenth studio album by American rock band Bon Jovi . In Germany it was initially only sold in a super jewel box . The Lost Highway tour started on October 25, 2007 with 10 shows at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Further shows took place in North America, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Europe, including six stadium concerts in Germany in summer 2008.

Emergence

According to Jon Bon Jovis, Lost Highway is “influenced by Nashville ”. The band was inspired by country influences through the great success of the single Who Says You Can't Go Home (originally from the previous album Have a Nice Day ), which was released as a duet with Jennifer Nettles and took it to the top of the US Made the Billboard Hot 100 Country Chart. In addition to the country influences, there are also many hard rock songs on the album, so with Lost Highway a rock country album was created.

Two songs were created in collaboration with other artists. In Til We Ain't Strangers Anymore , Jon Bon Jovi sings in a duet with LeAnn Rimes . We Got It Going On was recorded with the country duo Big & Rich .

The title song of the album was used in the credits of the film Born to be Wild .

reception

The single (You Want to) Make a Memory debuted in Germany at number 5 in the single charts. In the US, it reached number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 .

After Slippery When Wet (1986) and New Jersey (1988), Bon Jovi made it back to the top of the album charts in the USA. The album sold over 292,000 copies in the first week, which is a new record for Bon Jovi. In Japan, too, the album immediately made it to number 1. As of October 31, 2008, the album had sold 3,755,000 copies worldwide.

The critics, both nationally and internationally, were mostly positive about the band's style expansion. For example, Frank Albrecht wrote in Rock-Hard magazine: “Bon Jovi does not keep the somewhat jagged route of the last two long players on Lost Highway , but the tenth studio work of the New Jersey rockers can hardly be called a bore. Okay, maybe you added a little too much fabric softener to the overall package, but on the one hand Bon Jovi are allowed to do that, and on the other hand this thing still rocks very well in places. Bon Jovi of course also have the inevitable ballads on offer, but on the other hand they also play with a few country & western elements or are in the singer / songwriter profession. Lost Highway is by no means one -dimensional . What is missing, however, is a hit from It's My Life or Have a Nice Day . Summertime and I Love This Town are likely to have the greatest catchy tune potential , at the same time two of the absolute highlights of this rock-solid record. ”He awarded 7 out of ten possible points.

On November 23, 2007, the DVD Lost Highway: The Concert was released, a concert recording that includes the complete Lost Highway album. This recording is also available on CD. It is the first time that Bon Jovi played a full album live in a row.
