United World Chart

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The United World Charts are a weekly worldwide hit parade , which is determined by the company Media Traffic . These are unofficial hit lists that consist of an evaluation and self-defined weighting of selected national hit parades. They are not created in collaboration with the music industry and are only published on the Internet. They are often quoted in connection with internationally represented artists.

history

Media Traffic was founded in 1998 by Fred Chuchel from Germany. The testing phase began in February of the same year and the first weekly top 40 list was published in January 1999. In 2007, Media Traffic began to set up a chart archive which, in addition to the top 40 lists that have been in place since 1999, also includes the weekly top 10 prior to 1999. A chart archive is planned for the entire period from 1955 to the present. In 2002 Media Traffic started the test phase for a global album hit list. The first Top 40 was published in January 2004.

Media Traffic recorded almost 900,000 page views per month in 2013. The lists are also used by radio and television stations, such as the Sekai Banzuke program on the Nippon Television Network . The United World Chart can refer to more than 1000 external links and is also published on other websites, such as Allcharts.org or ChartsInFrance.

Survey procedure

The United World Chart is based on the official charts of numerous countries, including the USA ( Billboard ), Japan ( Oricon ), Great Britain (Music Week), Germany ( GfK Entertainment ), France (Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique), Canada (Billboard), Australia ( ARIA ), Italy (Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana), Spain (Productores de Música de España), Netherlands (MegaCharts), Belgium (Ultratop), Mexico (Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas), Brazil (Associação Brasileira dos Produtores de Discos), Argentina (Argentine Chamber of Phonograms and Videograms Producers), South Korea (Gaon charts | Gaon & Hanteo), New Zealand (Official New Zealand Music Chart), Austria ( Media Control ), Switzerland (Media Control) , Denmark ( track lists ), Norway (VG-lista), Sweden ( Sverigetopplistan ), Finland (Suomen Virallinen Lista), Ireland (Irish Recorded Music Association), Portugal (Associação Fonográfica Portug uesa), Poland (Polish Music Charts / ZPAV), Hungary (Association of Hungarian Record Companies / MAHASZ), Greece (IFPI Greece). There are also other unofficial sources.

Albums : The album charts are based solely on sales and include the sales figures or the official national album charts of all countries for which such information is publicly available. The charts of countries without exact sales figures are weighted according to their respective market size using the latest IFPI statistics (exception: albums with extremely high weekly sales are weighted separately). Albums that are placed in most or even all countries get additional points of sale to compensate for the countries in which there are still no official sales charts (Russia, China, India, Turkey etc.).

Tracks : Similar to the US single charts from Billboard, the track charts are based on the combination of sound carrier and download sales with radio airplay . The percentage ratio is 75% (sales) and 25% (airplay) (as of September 2013). All publicly available sales and airplay charts are also used here. The lists are again weighted according to the market size of the countries according to the latest IFPI statistics. In addition, the playlists of many radio stations from countries without official airplay charts are evaluated.
