Carly Simon
Carly Elisabeth Simon (* 25. June 1945 in New York ) is an American with the Grammy and Oscar excellent singer and songwriter .
biography
Carly Simon's father was the pianist Richard L. Simon (co-founder of the book publisher Simon & Schuster ). She grew up in Riverdale , New York , and has a brother and two sisters (her intermittent singing partner Lucy Simon and opera singer Joanna Simon ).
After a brief attempt to start a career with her sister Lucy Simon (they had a hit with the nursery rhyme Winkin ', Blinkin' and Nod as "The Simon Sisters" in the mid-1960s ), Carly Simon began her solo career in 1971 with the album Carly Simon , who delivered the top ten hit That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be . The second album Anticipation soon followed .
The breakthrough came in 1972 with the number-one album No Secrets , were released from the two successful singles, especially Simon's biggest hit You're so Vain , in which Mick Jagger in the chorus sings along and on the Klaus Voormann the bass - intro plays. The song reached number one in the US in early 1973, as did the accompanying album. For decades it has been speculated who the lyrics are referring to. According to Carly Simon in November 2015, the second verse is about Warren Beatty , with whom she had a brief affair.
Simon and James Taylor married in 1972. The couple have two children, Sarah Maria ("Sally"; born 1974) and Benjamin Simon Taylor (born 1977). In 1983 the marriage was divorced.
The album Hotcakes was released in 1974, followed by Playing Possum in 1975 . One of her hits in the 1970s was the theme song Nobody Does It Better for the film James Bond 007 - The Spy Who Loved Me , which was written by Carole Bayer Sager (text) and Marvin Hamlisch (music).
In 1980 Simon had a breakdown during a performance and then withdrew from the stage. However, recordings continued to appear, such as Why (1982) and Let the River Run (1988) from the film The Guns of Women , for which she received an Oscar in the category of best song and a Grammy in 1989 .
In 1998 Carly Simon developed breast cancer . After therapy, she returned to music. The album The Bedroom Tapes was released in 2000, Moonlight Serenade followed in 2005, Into White a year later and This Kind of Love in 2008 . A year later, Simon released the album Never Been Gone , which contained reinterpretations of previous successes as well as a previously unreleased track.
