License to Kill is a song by Gladys Knight released in May 1989 and the theme song for the film James Bond 007 - License to Kill . The song, written by Jeffrey Cohen, Narada Michael Walden and Walter Afanasieff , was a chart success especially in European countries.

Recording and publication

The song, sung in the spring of 1989 at Tarpan Studios in San Rafael, California , was released on May 30, 1989. This happened two weeks before the premiere of James Bond 007 - License to Kill on June 13, 1989. In addition to the producers, Narada Michael Walden and Walter Afanasieff, Michael Kamen (for the orchestral accompaniment) was also involved in the recording of the song. and Ren Klyce (responsible for Fairlight CMI ). The B-side of the single released by Gladys Knight contained the song Pam .

Chart successes

License to Kill was particularly successful in Europe after its publication. In Germany the song reached third place in the charts, in Switzerland it even reached second place. The song became a number one hit in Sweden, while it came in at number 6 in the UK. In contrast to the success in Europe , License to Kill could not place itself in the Billboard Hot 100 , but only reached number 18 in the adult contemporary charts, also created by the US magazine Billboard .
