Charles Fox (composer)

Charles Ira Fox (born October 30, 1940 in the Bronx , New York ) is an American composer and songwriter who, in addition to his many years of experience as a composer, gained worldwide fame through his song Killing Me Softly with His Song .

Life

Charles Ira Fox was born in New York to Walter and Mollie Fox. After graduating from high school, Fox studied music under Nadia Boulanger at the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau from 1959 to 1961 , before studying jazz piano under Lennie Tristano and electronic music with Vladimir Ussachevski at Columbia University . At the beginning of his career he worked as a composer and arranger for artists such as Ray Barretto , Tito Puente and Joe Quijano and then at Bob Israel's Score Productions , where he worked for television programs such as Match Game , What's My Line? and composed To Tell The Truth . He had his first big international hit Norman Gimbel when he with this 1972 song Killing Me Softly with His Song wrote and composed, for both 1974 the Grammy Award won as song of the year.

After composing his first well-known film music for the Franco-Italian science fiction film Barbarella in 1968 , Fox wrote music as a film composer for over 100 film and television productions in over 30 years, including such well-known as The Gods must be crazy II , Hilfe, the Americans come and number 5 does not give up . He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Film Song for his work in A Crooked Tour and The Flipside of the Medal . In addition to other awards and nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and the BMI Film & TV Awards , Fox was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004 .

Fox has been married to Joan Susan Redman since September 9, 1962, with whom he has three children, including screenwriter Robbie Fox .
