Tarzan in Manhattan is an American television film from 1989 directed by Michael Schultz . In the Action - Adventure takes Joe Lara the role of Tarzan .

Tarzan leaves Africa to travel to New York City , where he not only wants to avenge the death of his mother monkey Kala, but also has to save Cheeta. He was kidnapped by the supposedly kind-hearted Brightmore Foundation so that illegal tests could be carried out on his monkey brain . Once in New York, however, Tarzan has to face other dangers than those he is used to in the jungle. He is assisted by taxi driver Jane Porter and her quirky father, retired policeman Archimedes "Archie" Porter.
All three get close to the organization and manage to free Cheeta. Jane then joins her father's security company and asks Tarzan to help them too.
