Manor in Unterlauter

The Unterlauter Herrenhof , a former knight's seat from the 11th century, is located in the Unterlauter district of the Lautertal municipality in the Upper Franconian district of Coburg .

location

Parts of the original masonry of the north and east walls of the former manor house are still visible in a new building from 1758, which is to the right of the staircase to the Evangelical Trinity Church in the street Am Herrenhof , as well as a marriage coat of arms above the entrance door from 1570 .

history

In Unterlauter, which was first mentioned in 850 as Luteraha , as a document shows, the Herrenhof in Luter changed into the possession of the Abbey of Saalfeld in 1075 . Heinrich II von Sonneberg bought the property in 1252. It remained in the possession of the Sonnebergers until the second half of the 14th century . The knights of Luteren and von der Lossau , who were related to each other, were mentioned as fief takers in documents relating to Unterlauter . As the last of this line, a parish donation was documented by Katharina von Lossau in 1364.

A double coat of arms of those von Schaumberg and von Pappenheim , who had the knight's seat as a fiefdom in the 15th and 16th centuries, is affixed above the front door of the manor house with the year 1570 . Until 1641 the Lords of Rosenau were the owners, then the Lords of Zehmen . In 1758 Johann Heumann von Teutschenbrunn took over the property and had it completely rebuilt in a simple rococo style. After Heumann's death in 1760, the now quite unadorned manor house passed to various private owners.

New castle in Unterlauter

At the beginning of the 16th century, Adam von Schaumberg owned two other courtyards in the same place in addition to the manor near the church. One of them at the southern end of the village in the direction of Coburg, only a few hundred meters from the manor, was still occupied in 1619 by the liege lord Adam Ulrich von Schaumberg as a brick maker in Lauter . In fact, a brick factory and a clay pit belonged to the estate at that time, and the steep slope of the pit can still be seen today. In 1662, Sigmundt von Wallenroth was mentioned in a document as a liege lord. The farm was fundamentally rebuilt after 1880 by the master mason Weisheit from Lauter for the former fortress commander of Metz , General von Fischer , and since then it has had classicist and neo-renaissance features. The property, surrounded by a small park with old trees, has been called the New Castle since the renovation , although a nobility seat was never recorded at this point.

In 1912, Professor Brückner Pfänner zu Tal bought the New Castle . During the inflationary period between 1914 and 1923, it became the property of the glass manufacturer Greiner-Holz aus Hedgehog and in 1928 that of the lieutenant captain Eyring, from whose daughter it was finally bought by the forwarding agent Max Engel.
