The former manor Wiesenfeld is located in the village Wiesenfeld bei Coburg , a district of Meeder in Coburg the governmental district Upper Franconia in Bavaria . The manor dates back to the 13th century and has hardly changed despite a few changes of ownership.

Geographical location

Eight kilometers northwest of Coburg, a wide, fertile plain that was originally swampy extends between the Long Mountains in the north and the Callenberger Forest in the south. Meeder is located in the geographical center of the plain. Two kilometers south of Meeder is his district of Wiesenfeld on the state road 2205 from Coburg to Bad Rodach . The former manor is located in the middle of the village on Lindenstrasse.

history

The place Wiesenfeld was mentioned for the first time in 1231. The manor will have already existed as the core cell of the place at that time. The estate was explicitly mentioned in 1688, when Duke Albrecht von Sachsen-Coburg transferred it to Baron von Born, already the owner of the neighboring Moggenbrunn Castle as a privy councilor .

After Born's death in 1694, his inheritance was sold to Johann Christian Gärtner from Gestungshausen . Just three years later it became the property of the Coburg and Hessian Privy Councilor Johann Caspar Scheres, who named himself Zieritz Scheres-Zieritz after his place of birth . Scheres-Zieritz, Chancellor of Duke Albrecht, lived in the manor until his death in 1704.

Scheres donated his Wiesenfeld residence to provide old age for poor men. The Scheres-Zieritz-Foundation has been supported by the Coburg State Foundation since 1921 . Schere's extensive library was bequeathed by the benefactor to the princely government in Coburg.

investment

The manor house is a simple, rectangular half-timbered building on a stone cellar with two eight by three-axis upper floors and a protruding hipped roof . The only ornament is a large arched gate with the coat of arms of Johann Caspar Scheres. On the eastern narrow side there is a rectangular, tower-like porch with a flat, profiled triangular gable. In front of the building there is an expansive, 300 year old linden tree. In the stairwell there is a baroque epitaph by Scheres-Zieritz.
