Gestungshausen is a village east of Coburg .

It has around 700 inhabitants, a fortified church , St. Matthew's Church and remains of a church wall. Gestungshausen is the oldest place in the community of Sonnefeld . The first written mention comes from the year 1122.

The territorial reform forced the Gestungshausen community under Mayor Heinz Bär to give up their independence on January 1, 1972.
