Weischau is a district of the Upper Franconian community of Sonnefeld in the Coburg district .

location

Weischau is located about 15 kilometers southeast of Coburg on the federal highway 303 from Sonnefeld to Mitwitz . Communal roads lead to Neuses am Brand and Firmelsdorf .

history

Weischau was first mentioned in 1334 as "Weischave". In 1353, Weischau came to the Wettins by inheritance with the Coburg Land and was therefore part of the Electorate of Saxony from 1485 , from which the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg later emerged.

Weischau has belonged to the Evangelical Lutheran parish Gestungshausen since the 14th century . In 1837 the village had 50 inhabitants, in 1871 there were 67.

In a referendum on November 30, 1919, no citizen of Weischau voted for the Free State of Coburg to join the Thuringian state , 21 were against. Thus, from July 1, 1920, Weischau belonged to the Free State of Bavaria . In 1925 the settlement had 192.66 hectares, 63 residents and 12 residential buildings. The Protestant church and school were in Gestungshausen, 2.3 kilometers away.

A land consolidation took place from 1963 to 1972. On 15 January 1966 Weischau was forcibly incorporated into the community Sonnenfeld. In 1987 the village had 74 residents and 21 houses.
