action

Sharon Ferris is a divorced single mom who lives in Tampa , Florida with her daughter Nikki and is about to move to New York City . During the summer, Nikki meets Mary Grand, with whom she befriends. Mary's father has been a widower for many years. Nikki and Mary decide to set up their parents so that Nikki doesn't have to move to New York. At first they send Sharon flowers and letters on Bill's behalf. Unfortunately, this doesn't have the desired effect and that's why they let Sharon's twin sister Susan in on their plan. Susan is married to Brian Carey, a pilot, and lives in California. She agrees to help the girls and flies to Tampa, where she wants to dress up as Sharon to help her sister's happiness on the jumps.

One evening she "accidentally" runs into Bill in a bar, where they are watching a baseball game together. Unfortunately, the real Sharon hates baseball. When she meets Bill at work the next day and he talks about the beautiful evening with her, Sharon realizes the girls' plan and thinks of her own. While Susan, disguised as Sharon again, has a date with Bill, Sharon visits the same restaurant with Susan's husband Brian and wears a wig so that she is not recognized by Susan. Susan therefore believes her husband is on a date with another woman and becomes more and more awkward and jealous during her date with Bill, so she jumps up and tells Bill that her husband is at the other table. When Susan storms over to this table, she recognizes her sister and starts laughing. After the situation is cleared up, the real Sharon shares with Bill that she has no romantic feelings for him and that they should just remain friends.

The farewell party for Sharon and Nikki is to take place on Sharon's boss' ship, to which Bill and his daughter are also invited. Bill and Sharon meet in the cabin and Nikki and Mary pretend to get something out of the car. However, they release the ropes from the ship and push it off the pier. While Sharon and Bill are having a pleasant conversation, the guests of the celebration appear one by one, who can only watch the aborting ship afterwards. Meanwhile, Sharon and Bill wonder where the other guests are staying and look on deck, where they too now notice that the ship is moving further and further away from the pier. Bill kisses Sharon and the scene pans to Sharon and Bill's wedding.

criticism

“Very freely based on Erich Kästner's tale of Doppelten Lottchen, two ten-year-old girls try to interest their parentless parents in one another so that their friendship is preserved. A less plausible and amusing, slightly fairytale-like children's film in terms of the plot and more in terms of the coherence of the feelings, which adults can also enjoy. "
